Petri Evolution

Petri Evolution is an autonomous evolution sandbox where thousands of microorganisms live, mutate, compete and adapt inside a giant Petri dish.

You don't directly control the creatures. Instead, you change their environment and watch evolution do the rest.

Bacteria search for food, reproduce, age, die, mutate and form new strains. Some become faster, larger or better at finding food. Others develop armor, predatory traits, resistance to toxins or antibiotics, and entirely different survival strategies.

You can interfere with the ecosystem at any moment:

• Add different types of nutrients
• Drop sugar, meat and other food sources
• Heat or cool parts of the Petri dish
• Expose colonies to UV radiation and increase mutation rates
• Release toxins
• Apply antibiotics and watch resistant strains survive
• Observe predators, scavengers and peaceful food-specialists emerge

Organisms also visually change as they evolve. Predators can develop teeth and aggressive shapes, armored organisms gain protective features, fast organisms grow flagella, and different feeding strategies affect their appearance.

The simulation includes aging, energy consumption, decomposition of dead organisms, mutation, natural selection, multiple food specializations, predation, environmental resistance, population statistics, evolutionary graphs, save/load support and simulation speeds up to x128.

Every simulation develops differently. A dominant strain can disappear, a tiny surviving population can repopulate the entire dish, and environmental pressure can completely change the direction of evolution.

Create the conditions. Change the environment. Then watch life adapt.
